From the beginning to the end of summer, when we talk about fruits, our minds inevitably go to watermelon and cantaloupe. Both fruits provide us with a multitude of ingredients, vitamins, minerals and elements and of course, a lot of water.
However, they are considered by many to be healthy because their sweet taste has unfairly classified them as a weight gainer. However, the truth is that they do not have many calories because they contain a lot of water.

Like all fruits, melon, due to its natural sugars, gives us energy.
-It is rich in potassium, an essential mineral for heart health and blood pressure regulation, which, unfortunately, is lost in abundance in summer with sweat.
-It is a very good source of antioxidants, such as vitamin C and beta-carotene, thus contributing to strengthening the body's defenses and protecting it from cardiovascular diseases and various forms of cancer.
-Contains high amounts of adenosine, a substance with anticoagulant properties that acts protectively against strokes.
-Its nutrients also include vitamin B6, which is necessary for the proper functioning of the nervous system.

Watermelon also gives us energy.
-It contains significant amounts of potassium and vitamins C and A, while its high water content helps to better hydrate the body.
-It is rich in lycopene, a compound that exerts a strong antioxidant effect and has been linked by many studies to a reduced risk of various forms of cancer, especially prostate cancer.
-A characteristic of the white part between the red pulp and its peel is that it contains the substance citrulline, an amino acid that is converted in the body into arginine, which is one of the essential amino acids for the body and promotes the smooth functioning of blood vessels and improved circulation.

In the comparison between them, a slight advantage is given to watermelon. It is significantly higher in potassium, which we need in summer because we lose it through sweat. At the same time, it has more fiber, as well as vitamin C and folic acid.
As for their caloric content, it is low and almost equal to both fruits. If consumed in controlled quantities, both watermelon and melon have valuable nutrients to provide us with a low energy cost./CNA
