"Birra Korça" factory

Viron Prodani has published another book and this time he has brought some facts about the "Birra Korça" factory.

Prodani shows how the concession contract for the construction and administration of the "Birra Korça" Factory was signed by the Albanian government on March 21, 1930.

This concession contract was signed with the two partners Umberto Uberti and Selim Mborja and the building began to be built at the end of 1931.

Umberto Uberti was the administrator and the largest shareholder of "Birra Korça", since he had 79 shares out of 130 shares in total, while Mborja had 51 shares.

"Birra Korça" in its beginnings had an Italian engineer, 5 Italian technicians and 12 other Albanian employees.

With the arrival of the Germans, from November 1943 the factory was under the control of the German army, while with the arrival of the communist system it was seized in January 1945.

The factory started production on March 25, 1934 and the production capacity was 20,000 Hectoliters per year, but Prodani informs that this capacity could not be realized in any year.

In the first year, only 605 Hectoliters were produced, while from 1935 to 1944, 3000 to 4500 Hectoliters were produced per year.

An interesting fact that is mentioned in Viron Prodani's book is that the "Korça Beer" Factory also carried out other secondary activities such as the manufacture of ice, the mineral water factory, the malting factory and the refrigerator for preserving cheese.

Further, the book talks about the taxation of production, consumption and import of beer, as well as about international fairs and advertising.

The book closes with some biographies for the two shareholders Umberto Uberti and Selim Mborjan, as well as for the beer production technologist, Vasil Gjino.
