META indicates the option that detects fake images created by Artificial Intelligence

Meta will introduce technology that can detect and tag images created by other companies' artificial intelligence (AI) tools.

It will be deployed on its Facebook, Instagram and Threads platforms.

Meta already tags AI images generated by its own systems. She says she hopes the new technology, which she is still building, will create "momentum" for the industry to tackle AI counterfeiting.

But an AI expert told the BBC that such tools are "easily avoidable".

In a blog post written by senior executive Sir Nick Clegg, Meta says it intends to expand its tagging of fake AI images "in the coming months".
