The tragic accident with at least 38 dead in the Tempe area, caused by the collision of two trains, is thought to be the result of human error.

According to the Greek media, the two trains were on a railway line where they were traveling until their fatal collision.

Speaking to the local media , the president of OSE, Kostas Genidounias, said that if the light signaling had worked, the tragedy could have been avoided.

"What happened is what we have been calling for all the last years as the electronic systems do not work and everything is done manually on the Athens-Thessalonica axis.

If the lights were working, drivers would see the red signals and stop," says the OSE president.

Regarding the circumstances of the accident, Genidounias explained that there is a double line at the point, one train goes up, one goes down, but both were on the same line./CAN.al
