Democratic MP Ina Zhupa today accused the government of being corrupt and having links to international drug trafficking.

In her speech in Parliament, Zhupa said that misgovernment is driving Albanians out of the country and forcing them to become asylum seekers and illegal immigrants.

"The Democratic Party has a clear and part of its statute pro-American and Western orientation. There is no surprise in our vote in favor of this agreement for the Albanian state. Our vote against was because it should not have been approved through an anti-constitutional procedure, as this violates our seriousness as a state in agreements with our partners. We want to protect the dignity of the state, while today you showed that you were concerned that the prime minister would not be isolated, precisely today when Vjosa Osmani was in Davos together with the founding members.

We must separate what the Albanian state represents for the US and what the Albanian government represents for them. America has always been in defense of Albania, since President Wilson and in the efforts after the '90s to help in matters of security, economy, development, education, culture and justice. The Albanian state is a member of NATO and would certainly have this invitation, as it has the most pro-American people, perhaps in the world, and all parliamentary parties with a clear pro-American line.

While you have the assessment of the Albanian government a week ago, when we were the only NATO member country to receive visa restrictions, thanks to the misgovernance that is driving Albanians out of the country and forcing them to become asylum seekers and illegal immigrants.

"These two decisions are clear: the Albanian state enjoys American support, while the Albanian government has been included in the list of third world countries that misgovern, are corrupt and have links to international drug trafficking," Zhupa said. /CNA
