Holocaust Remembrance/Spiropali: Albania found the strength to honor life in its

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Elisa Spiropali, participated in the commemorative activity on the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, under the theme "Bridge that connects generations".

The ceremony took place at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, where it began with the planting of an olive tree, a symbol of peace, memory and continuity.

Spiropali recalled Prime Minister Rama's speech in the Israeli Parliament to prove the strength of Albanian humanity with the act of saving Jews during the Holocaust.

The minister said that sheltering Jews in Albania is a moral high ground that should be demonstrated everywhere, but it is not the only case of protecting foreigners.

" Yesterday, at the historic session held in the Knesset, Prime Minister Edi Rama brought back to everyone's attention the extraordinary example of the Albanian light during the darkest chapter of humanity, the Holocaust. 'Gold yes, Jews no', was in 1943, the response given in the face of Nazi Germany's ultimatum, by the Albanian people and authorities. Albania was the only country in Europe that ended the war with 15 times more Jews than it started. At a time when even much richer and so-called more civilized countries fell prey to a totalitarian flame that stripped them of human and moral codes, Albania found the strength precisely in its moral code to protect the different and to honor life. We are proud of this moral peak that deserves to be witnessed everywhere, but which is not the only one in our history of sheltering and protecting foreigners and people in need ," said Spiropali./CNA
