"Parliament, like in 1997"/ Krasniqi: It acts as the government's

Political scientist Afrim Krasniqi said today that the Albanian parliament is in the same situation as in 1997.

Invited to A2 CNN, Krasniqi stated that the parliament is acting not simply as a notary of the government, but also as a structure that has abdicated its role.

According to the political scientist, interest in plenary sessions, in which MPs can vote on anything, has declined.

"I am concerned about what is happening there. The Parliament is in a situation like in 1997, where a party has unnecessary numbers in Parliament, it can vote for anything. Our Parliament is not simply acting as a notary of the government, but is acting as a structure that has given up its role and this is the biggest concern. What is the point of half of the sessions ending after midnight, when no one is interested in following them. In a democracy, you have to offer citizens a mechanism by which you can be monitored and controlled. Parliament has this duty and we only ask that they make decisions transparent", - said Krasniqi. /CNA
