Lamallari with the experts of the Council of Europe: Time to separate Albania

The Minister of Justice, Besfort Lamallari, participated today in the high-level conference on the topic "The Right to Liberty and Security of Person - from Strasbourg to Implementation at the National Level".

Also participating in this meeting were numerous representatives of several high-ranking European institutions.

During his speech, Lamallari underlined that Albania, as a candidate country for the European Union, must once and for all separate itself from the harsh criminal mentality and policy inherited from the past.

"The theme of this conference invites us to do exactly this, and the best time is now: The New Criminal Code should reflect the sentencing ranges applicable in the European Union for the same criminal offenses; The Criminal Procedure Code should be amended to clearly and unequivocally guarantee the same procedural guarantees for the freedom and security of the person, according to the standards of the European Convention on Human Rights and the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights", - declared Lamallari. /CNA
