Foreign Minister Elisa Spiropali held a press conference regarding US President Donald Trump's invitation for Albania to join the "Peace Board" for Gaza.

Spiropali said that while Albania received this invitation from its biggest ally, public opinion was attacked from within with what she called the opposition's fantasies.

Among other things, the minister said that this development sends the message that in today's international politics, the geographical or demographic size of a country is not a determining factor, but rather the ability to contribute to peace, stability and security. According to her, this ability has been valued by Albania for years.

"Above all, it must be acknowledged that this invitation is a high appreciation for the new role that Albania has taken over the years in matters of peace, security and stability, in our region of course, but also within international organizations. There is no doubt that the invitation of the President of America is also a direct appreciation for the leadership of Prime Minister Edi Rama, who has been personally invited as a member of the "Peace Board".

Unfortunately, even for an event of such importance, quite special for small Albania, this good news for the name of Albania and Albanians in the world, has been followed by a flood of nonsense poured into the public information assembly. While Albania is invited as a co-builder of a new international mechanism, which aims to build sustainable and functional peace in the world, starting with one of the most complex and sensitive challenges of global security, such as the future of the Gaza Strip, Albanian public opinion is attacked from within with all kinds of fantasies of this government's opponents.

At a moment of special symbolism and weight, where Albania is called as a co-founder of a new center of discussions and decision-making with global impact, not in Honolulu, but in the White House, the periphery of our political scene is inflamed, as if Albania was excluded with shame, not invited with special honor. While this development also sends the message of the new America, that in today's international politics, the geographical or demographic size of a country is not a determining factor, what counts above all is authenticity, coherence and the ability to contribute to peace, stability and security - which everyone has recognized and appreciated about Albania for several years now - in Tirana, madness breaks out and takes over all kinds of stories about the billions of dollars that we will be paid for the board, and the Palestinians that we will bring to Albania in exchange for our presence on that board.
