Blackmail and threats are killing Albanian girls and women. This is already a disturbing social phenomenon, which is turning into a black chronicle and is filling the pages of portals and opening news editions.

Albanian girls and women are being denigrated on social networks for honor, mainly on "TikTok" and still no measures are being taken by the state for this social network.

But how long will these serious events take place? How long will Albanian women and girls live suffocated by masculinity? How long will Albanian girls and women endure violence, blackmail, inequality in relationships? How long will they be punished for "mistakes"? How long will they be forced by husbands, partners or family members to commit extreme acts, up to suicide, for the biggest "problem" they have: What is the world thinking about them?

A girl and 2 women ended their lives in just a month and a half, due to blackmail, violence and pressure from husbands and partners. Two of which, the 27-year-old in Kamëz and Bedrie Loka, were blackmailed on social networks, mainly on "Tik Tok".

Measures should be taken immediately so that such cases do not recur. In mainly rural areas, social centers for women are very necessary, the help of the psychologist is very necessary to bring these women out of the shell in which they are.

There is no more time, now is the time to act.

Even though we are in 2024, Albanian women and girls are still afraid of their partners, still endure violence, are still forced to tie crowns for their parents, and of course these relationships will have problems later on.

"The girl has the door to the man"... it is still a "law" that many women do not have the courage to violate, they do not have the courage to raise their voice for their rights, they do not have the courage to show the mistakes they make, to accept them and move on with life.

But they choose to commit suicide, to surrender.

The question must be answered: Who will take the blame for Bedria and other women who fall prey to violence?

In addition to the support needed for these women and girls, the main thing is to punish the perpetrators of these events and find ways to prevent such events.

On the other hand, Albanian girls and women themselves must show strength within themselves and not be defeated by monsters that force or push them to commit extreme acts.

Alarming figures

The report of the General Prosecutor's Office states that 1,038 people were convicted of domestic violence in 2022. For the same year, 4,000 domestic violence complaints were reported and 2,400 protection orders were issued for women and girls.

The report published by the WHO ranks Albania second after Romania in terms of this phenomenon in Central Europe. During the year 2022 for causing suicide, there are 233 proceedings registered, but only 2 convicted. Official data from the State Police show that from 2010 to today, there are 159 women victims of crime in the family.

Bedrie Loka

The year 2024 started with a serious event, where the center was rape, blackmail and the serious act of suicide of a woman. We are talking about Bedrie Loka, who, due to the denigration that was done to her on social networks, where she was bullied and the pressure of blackmail from her husband, made the decision to end her life by drinking photoxy . She left behind her 4 orphaned children, as in moments of weakness she could no longer bear people's comments or her husband's behavior. The husband is in handcuffs, who is accused of forcing the woman to commit the extreme act. After the serious event, the reactions from her family were not few, who, even though they were aware of Bedria's relationship full of problems with her husband, had not offered the latter a solution, how she could leave her abuser. Of course, the mentality that Albanian women and girls belong to their husbands is still followed...

The 18-year-old ends her life

But about a month later, in early February, a young girl decided to end her life. We are talking about the 18-year-old from Lushnja, who ended her life by consuming phostoxin.

The motives that led the girl to such an act are not yet known, but her 24-year-old husband is under investigation as it is suspected that the reason for the suicide was a conflict with her husband.

The 18-year-old had been married to the 24-year-old for a few months. The girl was from the village of Fiershegan and the boy from the village of ?ukas i Lushnja. They had constant conflicts due to jealousy as the husband suspected that she was cheating on him. At least that's how it's being reported so far. But the family of the 24-year-old rejects all these acts and emphasizes that the girl did the extreme act because of problems at school.

The 27-year-old woman jumps from the fourth floor of the apartment in Kamez

A serious event took place in Tirana on Sunday, February 11, where a 27-year-old woman jumped from the fourth floor of the apartment and died immediately.

It was initially reported that the serious incident happened accidentally, but investigations revealed that the woman had been blackmailed with some intimate photos that had been published on social networks.

A well-known character of "TikTok", Altin Çoku, who allegedly published the girl's intimate photo on social networks, was arrested for this incident. The 27-year-old was in the process of divorcing a person from Kosovo, while she had known Altin Çok. /CNA
