An 82-year-old Alabama woman was arrested after she failed to pay a $77.80 garbage disposal bill.

Court records show the Alabama woman was arrested Sunday after failing to pay her garbage service bill covering the months of June, July and August. She was accused of the criminal offense of "non-payment of solid waste fees".

The arrest of the 82-year-old drew outrage on social media. 

The city on Tuesday posted a statement on Facebook about the arrest. Officials said officers tried to contact her several times and left a note on her door. After she failed to appear in court in September, a warrant was issued for her arrest. /CNA.al
