Envelopes full of money found/ Imaging doctor arrested in Fier

Fier police have arrested an imaging doctor who worked at the Fier regional hospital.

Doctor GT, 66, was visiting citizens at his private clinic during working hours. He was taking money for ultrasounds, while the police seized 1,857,000 new lek, 39,155 euros, 2,370 pounds and 75 dollars that were found during a search of his apartment.

"After a 4-month investigation, in cooperation with the Fier Prosecutor's Office, the police operation codenamed "Imazheria" is being finalized."

The imaging doctor at the Fier regional hospital was arrested for taking money from patients to perform ultrasounds.

As a result of the immediate administration of information that the imaging doctor at the Fier hospital was taking money from patients to perform ultrasounds, specialists from the Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Section of the Fier Local Police Directorate organized the work in cooperation with the Fier Prosecutor's Office.

In this case, the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Fier has registered criminal proceedings no. 929 dated 01.07.2025, for the suspected criminal offense of "Abuse of office" and "Passive corruption of persons exercising public functions", an investigation which after 4 months was finalized with the arrest in flagrante delicto of citizen GT, 66 years old, resident of Fier, with the duty of imaging doctor at the Fier regional hospital.

This citizen was caught red-handed taking a large sum of money from a patient who was about to have an abdominal ultrasound.

Also, this citizen abused his duty by visiting patients in 2 private clinics in Fier during official working hours.

Following the procedural actions in this case, the amount of lek that the 66-year-old took from the citizen, in violation of the law, as well as the amount of 1,857,000 new lek, 39,155 euros, 2,370 pounds and 75 dollars that were found during the search of the apartment, were seized as material evidence.
