Trump: We need a real end to the conflict, not just an Israel-Iran ceasefire

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he wants "a real end" to the Iranian nuclear problem, with Tehran "totally surrendering" its enrichment activities. He said he was not just working towards a ceasefire to end the war between Iran and Israel, which has claimed at least two dozen lives in Israel and hundreds in Iran as it enters its fifth day.

"I didn't say I was asking for a ceasefire," Mr Trump told reporters on Air Force One after breaking off his time at the G7 summit in Canada.

Earlier, the president said on his platform 'Social Truth' that French President Emmanuel Macron had mistakenly said he left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to return to DC to work for a 'ceasefire' between Israel and Iran.

"Wrong! He has no idea why I'm on my way to Washington right now, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Ceasefire. Much bigger than that," Trump said.

Trump predicted that Israel would not slow down its attack on Iran, which has largely destroyed the Islamic republic's military command and caused significant damage to its controversial nuclear program.

"You'll learn over the next couple of days. You'll learn. Nobody has slowed down so far," Trump said.

The statements came hours after it issued a dire warning that Tehran's roughly 10 million residents should be evacuated immediately./CNA
