Spain evacuates ambassador and diplomatic staff from Tehran

Spain has evacuated the remaining staff from its embassy in the Iranian capital as Tehran continues to face US and Israeli air strikes, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuela Albares confirmed in a post on social media.

"We have just successfully evacuated the Spanish Embassy in Iran. The ambassador and essential staff who remained in Tehran have just crossed the border into Azerbaijan and are safe. The safety of our citizens and the foreign service is my priority ," the post said.

He added that the rest of the embassies in the region and the crisis room continue to work as normal.

"The rest of our embassies in the region and the crisis room remain fully operational 24 hours a day through emergency telephone lines," he adds.
