Israel's warning of a prolonged war

While diplomacy seems to be going nowhere, de-escalation is out of reach. According to the BBC, Israel says it has also killed three senior Iranian military officials, further evidence of its deep penetration into Iran's security forces.

One of them was Saeed Izadi, described as one of the architects of Hamas' attacks on Israel on October 7. The Israeli military called his killing a major achievement.

Another commander that Israel says it killed was Benham Shariyari, a member of the Revolutionary Guards overseas. He is believed to have been responsible for arms transfers from Iran to its regional proxies, including Hamas and Hezbollah.

IDF Spokesperson Effie Defrin, an Israeli military spokeswoman, said the two officials were at the forefront of the Iranian project to take the war to Israeli territory. In this operation, he said, we took the war to their territory.

The Israeli military also struck the Isfahan nuclear facility for the second time in this conflict. It released images showing extensive damage to the complex, but there were no reports of radioactive leaks.

In response to the attacks, Iran fired more ballistic missiles at Israel overnight. In the morning, an Iranian drone penetrated Israeli air defenses and hit a house in the north, but there were no injuries.

Amid international calls for a negotiated solution to the crisis, the head of Israel's armed forces said his country must be ready for a prolonged conflict against Iran.
