National protest of the opposition/ State Police: Blocking the roads, criminal

Representatives of the political entity Democratic Party of Albania have submitted the request for the development of gatherings, from 17:00 to 20:00 on 23.12.2024, on several main roads in Tirana, specifically:   

The small ring, the roundabout at Zogu i Zi, the bridge near the mosque on Elbasan Street, "Wilson" square and from the palace with arrows towards Kavaja Street.         

The State Police guarantees the right to assembly, the rights and freedoms of participants in assemblies, but without infringing the free movement of citizens and vehicles.

Based on and in implementation of the Law "On Gatherings", the State Police has undertaken all measures to guarantee public order, the implementation of the rights and freedoms of citizens and participants in gatherings, as well as the protection of public and private property.

Based on the object of the request made for the development of gatherings on some road axes in the city of Tirana, the Tirana Police has replied to the organizers that it undertakes to guarantee gatherings that do not block the free movement of vehicles and citizens.

Blocking road axes is a criminal offense provided for by Article 293 of the Criminal Code, and anyone who takes action to block roads will face the consequences of violating this article.

In order to help the citizens who will travel on the above road axes, the State Police has taken measures to divert the traffic of vehicles to alternative roads in case of blockage.

The State Police appeals once again for the enforcement of the law and respect for the free movement of citizens and vehicles, during the hours of the gatherings./ CNA
