Draft Law "On Gender Equality"/ Evangelical Brotherhood of Albania:

The Evangelical Brotherhood of Albania has stated in a reaction that they are against the approval in the Parliament of the new draft law "On gender equality". The reaction states that this draft law goes beyond the concept of gender equality, rewriting, according to them, the definition of gender and paving the way for ideologies that conflict with the biblical, family and cultural values ??of Albanian society.

VUSH states that the adoption of the draft law could bring serious consequences: for the education of children, the traditional meaning of the family, and freedom of religion, as one of the fundamental human rights in a democratic society.

In response, it also calls on all current members of Parliament not to vote for this law. The Evangelical Brotherhood of Albania also invites all churches to pray for the country, for its leaders and for the preservation of the fundamental values ??of family, life and faith.

The Evangelical Brotherhood of Albania, as a representative of the Evangelical Community and part of the Interreligious Council of Albania, which has made a previous statement regarding the new draft law "On Gender Equality", follows with deep concern the developments regarding this draft law which is expected to be voted on soon in the Albanian Parliament.

We emphasize that we fully support the equality and dignity of every human being, both men and women, created in the image of God. However, this draft law, in its current form, goes beyond the concept of gender equality, rewriting the definition of gender and paving the way for ideologies that conflict with the biblical, family and cultural values ??of Albanian society.

We are against the approval of this bill because it could have serious consequences for:

• educating children, through the introduction of ideological concepts into the educational system,

• the traditional meaning of family, as a union between man and woman,

• and freedom of religion, as one of the fundamental human rights in a democratic society.

As a religious community that has contributed for decades to the spiritual, social, and human life of the country, we appeal to all members of the current legislature to reflect and not vote on this law, which in the future will have the aforementioned consequences.

At the same time, we invite all our churches to pray for the country, for its leaders, and for the preservation of the fundamental values ??of family, life, and faith.

May God bless Albania and grant our leaders wisdom and justice in decision-making.
