President Begaj: I asked Pope Francis that the Vatican recognize Kosovo as a

President Bajram Begaj paid a visit to the Vatican and was received by Pope Francis.

During an interview in one of the Italian newspapers, "Il Tempo", the President stated that he asked Pope Francis for the Vatican to recognize Kosovo as a state.

According to Begaj, this recognition would further help the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue efforts that are being led today by the European Union and the United States of America.

In an interview with the Italian newspaper "Il Tempo", the Albanian head of state did not ignore the situation in the Western Balkans and asked Pope Francis for the Vatican to recognize Kosovo. According to him, this would help the efforts for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia even more.

" Our Balkan experience teaches us that war games cannot be played in a region with a problematic past and present. For this reason, we need continuous dialogue, economic prosperity, positive energy for our citizens, but above all, a genuine European projection for our future.

The enlargement of the EU in the Balkans does not have to face the internal Europopticism of some political forces of the EU, but it should be the only way to make the entire Balkans part of the EU away from the influence of third powers in growth.

Also, the role of the Pope and the Holy See is very important to increase the attention of the EU and the West, not only to maintain peace in the Balkan Region, but also to ensure the European future of the Balkans. From this point of view, I certainly asked Pope Francis for the Vatican to recognize Kosovo as a state, since this recognition would help even more the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue efforts that are being led today by the European Union and the United States of America" , said Begaj./ CNA.al
