The police of North Macedonia prevented the celebrations of the Albanians for the Independence of Albania yesterday evening.

Even today, the police have done an unprecedented act, removing the Albanian flags.

Regarding these actions, there has been a strong reaction to the Democratic Union for Integration.

Through a press statement, DUI has requested the resignation of the Minister of Internal Affairs.

DUI has emphasized that the minister has shown a lack of responsibility and incompetence in dealing with inter-ethnic situations.

"The Democratic Union for Integration urgently demands the resignation of the Minister of Internal Affairs due to the unprecedented and unjustified intervention of the police during last night's Albanian Flag Day celebrations.

This intervention not only prevented a peaceful and traditional manifestation of the Albanians, but also caused tensions and unnecessary incidents that have damaged the inter-ethnic harmony in the country.

Moreover, today we are witnessing a selective and one-sided approach by law enforcement institutions. While the Albanian citizens who burned the national flag have been banned and punished, those who burned the Albanian flag remain unpunished.

This discriminatory and unfair approach is unacceptable and undermines citizens' trust in state institutions, deepening divisions and tensions in society.

The Minister of Internal Affairs has failed to guarantee a fair and professional approach to incidents, showing an inability and lack of responsibility to handle inter-ethnic situations with due care. For this reason, we demand his immediate resignation.

The Democratic Union for Integration remains committed to the protection of the rights and dignity of Albanians, as well as to the preservation of coexistence and stability in the Republic of North Macedonia.

We will not tolerate state institutions being used for discriminatory policies that violate the rights of citizens and inter-ethnic coexistence", says the DUI's reaction./ CNA
