The family of former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi has reacted to the passing of former Albanian Prime Minister Fatos Nano. Through a telegram, the Thaçi family, on behalf of the former Kosovo President, expressed condolences to the family of former Prime Minister Nano.

The reaction states that Fatos Nano belongs to the generation of leaders who transformed Albanian politics at historical turning points from a monist system to a pluralistic democratic society.

It is also emphasized that the support that Nano gave to the Kosovo issue in the pre-war period and the 1998–1999 war is historic.

Dear Nano Family,

It is with deep sadness that we received the news of the passing of the former Prime Minister of Albania, Fatos Nano.

In these days of pain, on behalf of the Thaçi Family and the former Prime Minister and President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, we express our most sincere condolences to you, the representatives of the institutions of the Albanian state and the friends of Mr. Nano.

Fatos Nano belongs to the generation of leaders who successfully transformed Albanian politics at historical turning points from a monist system to a pluralistic democratic society. With his reformist spirit, tolerance and modern political culture, he set the example of a mature leader, paving the way for the new political generation.

The support that Mr. Nano gave to the Kosovo issue in the pre-war period and the 1998–1999 war is historic and his contribution remains a precious legacy of our national values.
