The Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Enea Karakaçi, was present this Friday at the Conference of the Association of Foreign Investors in Albania. In his speech, the minister emphasized the energy sector, which according to him is among the most sensitive sectors in geopolitical developments. Karakaçi further stated that through deep reforms, Albania has built a stable system and harmonized with the European Union.
"The energy sector is among the most sensitive sectors to geopolitical developments.
What has Albania done during these years?! Certainly through deep reforms we have built a stable, regulated and harmonized system with the European Union. This does not only come as a need for Albania to be a member of the European Union and as such to approximate the entire legal regulatory framework with the European Union, but also comes as a necessity to attract investments, to guarantee investors a stable regulatory framework.
We have strengthened institutions, modernized production and invested in their digitalization and innovation. But, above all, as this event proves, we have built a real partnership with the energy sector. The contribution of domestic investors, who are very important, but also foreign, has been decisive in this transformation. Without this cooperation, it would be impossible to achieve today's progress."
The minister further spoke about production capacities, for which he said concrete steps have been taken.
"Meanwhile, we have had very concrete results in terms of increasing production capacities. Here we have a very good support measure that has allowed and created the possibility of having about 400 mega self-production capacities in the country, precisely because of the measures and the very transparent and simplified regulatory framework that has created the opportunity for small businesses or families to have the opportunity to have generation capacities for self-production. Concrete steps have been taken in the meantime to reduce losses, increase collections, create energy sector companies that are financially sustainable and not dependent, let's say, on state interventions in terms of financing.
But, to be concrete, to continue and have this sustainability, we also need to invest in human resources. Human resources are definitely the key to the energy sector and we are taking concrete steps here too," said Karakaçi.
In closing, Karakaçi stated that the Ministry plans to open a new auction for renewable generation in the third quarter of 2026. According to the minister, this plan will be based on assistance and cooperation with the EBRD./ CNA
