The National Water and Sewerage Agency recently signed a contract for an investment with a contract value of 740 million Lek or about 7 million euros.

It is about the construction of the water supply in the area of ??Patos as part of the investment program in this sector which is being supported with funds from international financial institutions. The winning company of this procedure is Curri and the duration of the contract is 18 months.

Referring to the technical report that accompanies the procedure published by AKUM, the reconstruction of the main part of the water supply and the internal network of the water supply of the City of Patos is intended. This aqueduct was built earlier in the 1970s in the first phase with its source in Zharres and in 1989 as the second phase when the Varibob aqueduct was built.

According to the institutions, the internal water supply network was built without concepts of ring or zonal networks, creating difficulties in some areas for water supply.

"The amount of water produced today in the Patos Aqueduct system is about 9500 m3/day, that is, with a water flow of 105-110 l/s, while for the surrounding areas the daily amount of water produced is 1830 m3/day. As a monthly production, the amount of water is about 340,000 m3, while the annual production is about 4 million m3/water.

The amount of monthly energy consumed for the city's water supply is 740,000 kWh, while for the suburbs it is 41,000 kWh with a total amount of monthly energy consumption of 782,000 kWh. Water production is reported to be constant, 131,000 m3/month, that is, 1,570,000 m3 of water per year," the document states.

The water pipeline in question is part of investments related to the sector, which for years has been supported by several loans. A program that has been implemented for years is the one for rural water supply systems according to the program extending to 2018-2024 and which is being supported by the German government with a funding of around 103 million euros.

Meanwhile, earlier the World Bank also offered a 75 million dollar loan for the water supply and sanitation sector. This loan approved in 2022 is part of the National Program of 135 million USD for the modernization of the water supply and sewage sector in Albania./Monitor
