In today's court session at the Special Court, businessman Elman Abule requested a separate trial.
Abula's lawyer said in today's session that the case should be separated for procedural reasons.
Regarding the criminal offenses for which Abule is accused, his lawyer said that they belong to a court of another jurisdiction.
" We have requested a separation of the case and a summary trial for my client, Elman Abule. The reason why we are requesting the separation is related to procedural reasons. We are in the judicial review phase and we assess that holding a joint proceeding would undermine the clarity of the process for my client. The criminal offense for which Elman Abule is accused is related to a court of another jurisdiction and not the Special Court. So, otherwise, subject matter jurisdiction should be transferred to another court. The facts for Elman Abule are independent of the other defendants ," said the lawyer.
